Unfortunately, breasts do not maintain their youthfulness forever. As women age, their breasts begin to sag as a result of gravity. Sagging breasts are also very common after pregnancy or breast feeding. Sometimes a breast lift alone will create the look you desire, but often a breast enlargement is performed along with a breast lift. Using a breast implant in addition to performing a lift can help restore the natural volume that has been lost because of pregnancy, breast feeding, or aging. Sometimes patients desire a small to moderate decrease in the size of their breasts in addition to the breast lift. You can be assured that Dr. Fryer will listen to your concerns and individualize your treatment plan to achieve the beauty and confidence that you desire.
Salt Lake City plastic surgeon Dr. Fryer will help you decide on the type of surgery that is best for your particular needs. After a breast lift, your breasts will look more youthful and your nipples will be placed at the correct position. If you choose to combine breast enlargement with a breast lift, then your breasts will look fuller in addition to being perkier. Because of the complexity and difficulty in combining these two procedures many surgeons refuse to perform both augmentation and lifting at the same time. This means two surgeries and two recoveries with time off work or away from family routines. Dr. Fryer confidently offers to combine both of these surgeries in most cases which may save you both time and money while not compromising your aesthetic outcome or safety.
Breast lift is done on an outpatient basis at our Salt Lake City facility under local or general anesthesia. The design of the incisions can vary, but usually include incisions around the nipple areolar complex, vertically down the breast, and in the crease under the breast. The nipple areolar complex is repositioned higher, the excess skin is removed, and the breast is reshaped in a pleasing contour and in a more normal position.
You will return home with light dressings over the incisions along with a supportive bra. Almost all sutures are absorbable, but a few key sutures may need to be removed within 7 to 10 days. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication, and light activities may be started in 7 to 10 days. Patients are discouraged from undertaking vigorous exercise or activities for six weeks.
The specific risks and the suitability of breast lift surgery can be determined only during your consultation with Salt Lake City plastic surgeon Dr. Fryer. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk, but major complications are rare.
